It started with a real clip filmed in Gangnam, Seoul, posted on TikTok by @emiliyyam on 5 October 2026, and within days people were remaking it with AI, swapping in friends, characters and pets. Searches for "gangnam style ai" started climbing on 8 October 2026.

The clip that started it
On 5 October 2026 TikTok creator @emiliyyam posted "gangnam style in gangnam": three friends on a street in Gangnam at night, Korean flags behind them, singing along to PSY's 2012 hit. Each takes a solo turn at the camera before they come back together. By 22 October it had about 2.9 million likes.
How it became an AI trend
AI video models that re-shoot a clip from a reference made the format easy to copy with anyone. Remakes with film characters and famous faces spread on TikTok and Reels, and "how do I make this video?" posts followed. The song
